The Legal Aid Program provides advice only for personal civil matters. Lawyers cannot represent clients in court, prepare documents or file them in court, or advise people who have hired a civil lawyer on the same subject. They cannot advise on criminal cases or offences related to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) (active members of these matters should contact the office of the Area Defence Council), nor can they help anyone avoid paying a debt or advise someone regarding a private company and other external employment. They are also prohibited from creating personal legal documents on behalf of applicants, with the exception of wills, powers of attorney and affidavits.
