The most common and versatile system for hanging backrests is to cut a slot for the rails and hang them on the sides or at the front and back of the drawer, as shown below. For standard configurations (the rails go from front to back), the dimension we use is 12 1/4″ outside the rails for letter files and 15 1/4″ for legal acts. (see drawing below) Side, Letter and Legal on top with “L” bar for stability. (front bar) Minimum depth for letter: 14 5/16 for 5/8″ thickness, minimum depth for legal thickness 17 1/4 for 5/8″ thickness. The real side of the drawer is looted to hang the files. This detail uses the same dimensions as the black fiber rails integrated above. Hard maple is recommended. The minimum height of the internal drawer for this detail is 9 1/2″. For 1/2″ thick drawer pages with standard configuration, the width is 13 1/8″ for the letter or 16 1/8″ for the legal.

Not recommended for side applications as the rail may interfere with the front. Clips on rails do not require special treatment and can be easily added after mounting the drawer. The minimum height of the inner drawer for this detail is 9 1/8″. For all file drawer configurations not shown, please provide a drawing and the standard and legal hardware specifications listed above. (Minimum width for letter: 14″, legal: 17″) If your application requires briefcases less than 10 1/8 inches tall, custom heights can be made to meet space requirements. Drawers can be made with a height of 9 5/8″ with flush shelves of 1/4″ or a height of 9 3/4″ with a bottom of 3/8″. The bases are then stapled into the Rabbet. To specify a combination of standard and side, combine two types, for example: F1 / F4.
